You can check with glass shops and even some Home Depot's have them, but I always order.

Outwater Plastic is the cheapest but has a 12' minimum order. Honestly they still come in cheaper than some places selling the 48" lengths. They can't ship 12' sections so they will cut it for you but don't trust them to get it perfect. Have the sections cut oversize and trim with a hacksaw.

If you don't need the excess it's very easy to get rid of at local herp shows, etc.

Or you can order 48" sections from Rockler.com.

Let me know if you need direct links.

yes links would be good also what is the easiest way to install it also how do i put the doors in.

Here is the Outwater link. The plastic track is the third product down. You'll likely want the product made for 1/4" glass.

Here is the Rockler link.

My favorite way to install the track is with construction adhesive.

Don't have glass/acrylic cut until you have the track in hand and know exactly what the manufacturer recommends.

Chris_Harper2 Dec 09, 2007 11:15 PM

No, I think that's 60 cents per foot with a 12' minimum order.

thats still a great price at 72 plus shipping and handling. when it comes in the mail is it going to be a 12ft box at my door?.

No, they have to cut it. I don't know what the maximum size they can ship is. I have ordered from Outwater but I don't believe I have ordered their glass track.

how do i put the glass on the tracks?

Chris_Harper2 Dec 10, 2007 10:41 AM

You put it in at an angle into the upper track (the upper track is the deeper of the two). Once seated up against the top of the upper track you then lean the glass back and lower it into the shallow bottom track.

Very easy.

very big help! thank you very much for all your help.

Yes, the larger piece goes on top, and the smaller on the bottom.
I've used them in building wood cages. Used plastic instead of glass. You should install plastic guides on the sides also, so the glass / plastic doors don't jiggle on you. I drill small holes at the edge of door to take pop rivets (1/8" is fine). This acts as a stopper so door doesn't slide all the way over.
I use a stiff piece of illustration board to ascertain an exact fit before I have the doors cut to size.
The pix is a 2' x 4' cage. Strips come in white and brown.

how do i measure the height of the glass?also how much of an overlap should the two pieces have?

mingdurga Dec 24, 2007 11:43 AM

Measure the height using a stiff piece of cardboard to ascertain door can be removed or put in place properly. Overlap should be about 1 and 1/2" to 2".
