suriname/venezuela and guyana?

reagorfu Dec 09, 2007 04:09 PM

what do we lable boas that came from guyana when its boreders change and it reduces size by more than 3/4th of what it is now? i really think that venezuela is not going to bck down and suriname still thinks that alot of their south eastern border belongs to them? should we lump most of the guyanas into the suriname catgory or still call them guyanas even though it is not guyana anymore and that it is suriname or venezuela? just wondering and thought it would make a good topic. thanks.

Well, I think that locality snakes typically get labelled with the name of the location they came from at the time.

Perhaps as a result of any border changes, we'll start seeing more specific locality names (much like green tree pythons tend to be named after the city or region they are shipped out of, rather than the country - like Biak, Sorong, etc).

But I'd think that exporters will continue to group and/or market or label them by country of origin. They have some territory overlap anyway and no wild snake can be guaranteed to be a pure line unless the population is segregated geographically from others.
