New hog owner question

coreyhkh Dec 09, 2007 07:31 PM

Hey everyone, I bought a hog nose snake about a week ago. I have a question about movement, because she does not move like my other snakes ( a ball python and sand boa) she often moves upside down. An example is she was trying to climb a plant and she fell but instead of flipping over right away she moved away upside down then flipped right side up again. She also does it when she wants to change direction Is this normal?

I agree.. It sounds like your snake has a problem.. I would see if you can return it or exchange it for another animal..

I have noticed the same thing you are experiencing with mine. I didn't notice it until he got home, I had thought it was just normal as mine was a one week old neonate.

Never went away.

definitely let the breeder know and see if they will extend there health guarantee. this some times happens to snakes kept in the very small deli cups. i had this happen two years ago so i moved the clutch together in a large container and four babies got cannibalized so now i keep them in 6 in x 3in containers and no problems

I agree with the others that something maybe wrong. Letting the seller know and/or closely watching the behavior is warranted. However, I would like to point out that hogs do tolerate being upside down more than most snakes. I feel that this is because of their death feigning behavior that predisposes them to being upside down in the first place. Just keep that in mind.
