Small Venezuelan snake

typpy Dec 10, 2007 08:11 AM

Can anyone help me identify this little snake from the Los Llanos region of Venezuela? I'm attempting to include three photos which should give a pretty good idea of what it looks like. This snake was found during the day at during February at Hato El Frio.

If the two embedded photos don't work, the snake was probably about 18 inches long, striped the whole length and very thin.

Thanks!

Okay, the other photos didn't work so I'm just going to send two more messages.

So good to see someone photographing a snake instead of lopping off it's head!!

Looks most like Liophis lineatus to me, although it's hard to be absolutely sure. Definitely not Thamnodynastes though - they have vertical pupils for starters, and quite different head and body shapes.

Cheers,
