I got my mali about a month ago. When I was researching, I read that they were pretty sedate, and all of the uros I've seen in shops were .. well, lazy. Mine isn't. She constantly runs around the tank, tries to hold onto the screen top so she can walk upside down, and runs up pieces of wood and rocks jumps off of them. Is this normal? Should I put more things in her cage for her to explore? Should I hide food around the tank to give her something to do? I know I'm anthropomorphising (sp?), but she looks bored.

She's about 8" long and she's in a 4' x 2' x 2' glass tank. I'm going to cover the back and sides of her tank with brown paper tonight to give her more privacy. Is her cage too small? I read everywhere that it would be big enough. I've got broken terra cotta pots, rocks, cork bark, and driftwood in the tank for her to hide under and climb on. I'll take a picture if it'll help.

Healthy uros are active and curious. It sounds like you're doing quite well. The 4x2 floorspace is good - larger is always better, but what you have is sufficient.

Pet store uros are often too cold, ill, or in otherwise less-than-ideal conditions. That's why they seem so docile.
