strange behavior

OK, here is the deal. My ATB (that I love very much!) has been spending much more time on the ground lately. He used to spend much more time in his perches. The bulk of the perches are dirrectly under his heat lamp. He only goes up there when he is cold now. The moment he warms up he just goes back into his hide box. What is going on? Is my hot spot to hot? Should I be worried?

Ohh yeah, I forgot to mention that he is still just a baby. Do you think that he may feel suddenly threatened? He is not in a high traffic area and I keep him well hydrated. What's going on?????

Thanx!

Amazons are not as totally arboreal as emeralds or green tree pythons...They will not always stay on a branch. They do enjoy laying on the cage bottom or securely in their hide boxes and it's good that you are offering one (hidebox). You might try an elevated hide box with one end of it near the heat source. The amazon will stay in the hide alot but will come out in the early mornings to drink and in the evenings to hunt,etc.. Actually it's kind of cool to watch them stretch out of their hidebox hole to check out their surroundings!
