Box Turtle Advice

chameleon2005 Aug 25, 2003 04:37 AM

Hi there,

I am posting on behalf of a friend who has taken on a box turtle from a neighbour who has moved away and he is looking for as much info as possible on the correct maintainence/diet of the animal. If any one could send me a care sheet or point me in the direction of where i could get a reliable one then i will be much obliged.

I know you guy`s will be sick of getting postings like this, yes he know`s he should of done his homework first. Overall his set up looks correct to me but I have no experience with them.

Thanks in advance

I have found that Tess cook's website is an excellent place to start. I have posted a link below. She provides links for even more information.

Good luck

Have your friend should think about, and learn about the box turtle's natural enviroment and diet. Then strive to emulate the that enviroment and diet. Depending on the species or subspecies of box turtles, it may have slightly different enviromental and dietary needs. but all box turtles are omnivores, so he should provide it with a well rounded diet of live insects, some protein, greens, vegtables and fruits.

Someone has already passed along my website and I thank them for that There you will find a natural history article and an online box turtle care book. Please pass the info to your friend.
