Best way to heat the boa room?

DarkHelmet Dec 11, 2007 03:18 AM

Hey all, new to the forum. I would eventually like to breed boas and I was curious how all of you have your snake rooms set up. Is it better to heat racks with heat tape or to just heat the room? I've been toying with the idea of getting a space heater for the room and I've gotten different opinions from different people. I'm sure the topic has been brought up before but I'm having a hard time finding info. Any input would be appreciated.

We use heat tape as well as a space heater... we keep our tape at 88 and the room temps with the space heater at around 78 to 80. For our breeding season we turn off the tape and drop our room temps to 76-80.

Hope this helps a little.

I use a room heater, and a fan blowing on a tub of water. The room heater tends to dry things out.

I personally prefer the oil filled space heaters. They are very safe and effecient.

I use oil filled space heaters, too.

A space heater for a room in a cold house can be a good thing. However, you should always have belly heat available in your cages and racks so that you can provide the proper gradients. Depending on your setup, a room temperature of 70-80 degrees and then belly heat set to 88-92 and controlled by a thermostat. A lot of variables will go into the proper climate control, but that should be a good starting point.

Yes. You should use heat tape, under cage heat, as well as space heater. Guess I didn't rtfq on my last.
