Only green beans

mullinsn2000 Dec 11, 2007 11:11 AM

My Iguana only wants to eat green beans (snap beans). He/She is small, only maybe 6-8 inches not including tail. I have mixed turnip greens, mustard greens, kale or escarole (forget which), yellow squash, and green beans and he wouldn't touch it. I tried this for a few days then I put each of those into its own seperate dish and it ate the green beans onle. I then tried mixing green beans with each of the others so there was one item besides green beans, again nothing. Green beans alone and it eats them. Any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Temps are good, basking spot at 105F, warm side mid to upper 80's cooler side mid 70's maybe up to 80 occasionally. Good, brand new UVB bulbs. It is somewhat active moves around perching under the UVB, basking in the basking spot, and climbing. It is just very picky and I want to change it as much as possible.

Don't give into your iguana, or don't let it train you to feed it only the things it likes. Try holding out on the green beans for awhile and feed it the new food. I try this and now my iguana will eat anything I put in his dish. Don't worry about them not getting enough food if he's not eating because reptiles in general can go pretty much a long time without food, but make sure he has a water bowl. Iguanas get most of the water they need from the food they eat, but they do drink if they are not getting enough, so always make sure you have a water bowl. So don't cave to your iguana demand...be patience and pretty soon, you'll train him to eat what you offer. Note: this may take awhile before your iguana try the new food, so be patience and pretty soon it will give in to its hunger and eat them. Once he eats them it's easier from there. Have you ever tried some grated pasnips and butternut squash? My iguana loves that!
