Anybody care to take a guess...

jazzmachine Dec 11, 2007 01:33 PM

Well I had tried to get in a pair of Egg Eaters a little while ago. And only 1 snake came in, it was this guy. Obviously not an Egg eater, but hoping somebody can clarify as to what this thing is. Extremely fast, does not hesitate to bite, and has a good ammount of pressure coming from the jaws. Sorry about the pic quality, but hopefully someone can help. Thanks...

Kevin

Psammophis (spelling?)....A fast, rear fanged species from Africa....their primary prey is lizards, and their venom is not considered medically significant to humans....

Best guess would be Psammophis sudanensis Northern Strip-Bellied sand snake

SCherper09 Dec 12, 2007 08:45 AM

well it's gotta be a rear fanged colubrid....that's a given. if I was to guess (since that's somthin I don't recognize) maybe some species of keelback?

SCherper09 Dec 12, 2007 08:46 AM

Hi Guys,

without doubt it is a Psammophis sp.
could be P.sibilans, which are commonly exported.

Venom delivery poor but big glands, so i've heard.
Need to show a little caution.

Cheers,
Dave
