2008 Calendar

As many of you know, we lost our son Christopher Todd "Toadbucket" Barnes in January of this year due to injuries he suffered in a car accident. The people at Life Gift Organ Donation were so moved by his story that we were asked to be part of their calendar for this year. I am so proud of my little man that he made such an impact on the lives of many in life and in death.

Here is the caption that will be on the calendar:

Fascinated by race cars, fire trucks and emergency vehicles, Christopher Barnes was never without a toy train or car in his tiny hands. Christopher loved his mom Gail, his dad Jody and his brother Conner. Although he was only 4 when he died from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident, his magnetic personality is remembered by all who knew and loved him. When Christopher’s family realized his chances of surviving were slim, they made the generous decision to donate his organs in hopes of saving someone else’s life.

Christopher's heart went to an 18 month old girl in California, his liver went to an 11 month old boy in Dallas, and his kidneys went to two adult men in other small towns in Texas. All recipients of his organs are home and doing well.

If you would like a calendar, email me and I can send you one.

I am so blessed to have such a beautiful family.

Wow, I had not heard about this. Looks like he was a great kid. Very sorry for your loss. You should be proud that your son was able to save the lives of at least 4 others.

Impossible for me to even imagine what this whole ordeal was like for you and your family... I remember your story from a while back as you had posted it in this forum and I was quite moved by it. I have a daughter and a second child on the way in the next few weeks and I can personally understand how close one can be to their children.

I would like to say that you and your family are heroes in my mind for the great act of charity to have donated and helped others. Certainly your little boy would of approved!

Bristen.

Thanks for sharing, Jody. Reading this helps to reinforce how much my daughter means to me. She is almost four years old, as was your son. I am very sorry for your loss. Best wishes in getting through the tough times.

Having recently become a father, I cannot imagine the pain of having to go through a loss like that. What a cute little boy your son was... hearing a story like this really puts things into perspective and makes you realize what is important in life.

It's wonderful that you were able to take such a tragedy and make something positive from it through organ donation. You touched and improved the lives of many people, and I'm sure they will be forever grateful.

Thanks for sharing this story. Best wishes to you & your family.

I couldn't imagine the pain of losing a child- Jody, my heart goes out to you.

More than any words can say- with 3 of my own, that has to be the hardest thing in the whole world- really puts life in perspective.

Blessings,

Steve Harrison
