Then I went to another boardline where the fabulous striped meahlmorrim was found. There are about 30 pieces of ply there and the earth has gaping cracks under them, but still retains moisture. The edge was recently mown, but the first board I flipped had one of the best pics I never got, three Checkered garters with there heads all turned toward me as I flipped the board, staring out of the crack in the earth. It was classic, a big female and two subadults, they split up and dove into the cracks, never could get them together for a shot, but the big girl cruised through the undergrond tunnels where I could get some shots. Then under another board, a subadult Scott's whipsnake shot out like,(you guessed it) greased lightning outta a cannon. I have never been able to get an in situ shot of this species, they bolt at the first hint of danger. Anyway I got him, he expressed his hemis for me then expressed his displeasure ON me, lol! A beautiful snake that my camera didn't do justice for. His salmon belly and dark salmon tail tip were exceptional, as well as his facial markings!
