Calhoun county, Texas today

antelope Dec 11, 2007 09:24 PM

Passing through Aransas, Refugio, Goliad, and back into Refugio counties did not yield any herps. i was hoping to see a coral or a prairie king near dusk. So I jetted to my old standby king and T rat spot in Calhoun county. I know these snakes know what is up with the weather, and I thought they would be hunkered down. I passed a dor broad banded water snake that was flat as a pancake and a red eared slider that was also brutalized. There was one other piece of leather that I would go back by on my way out. I get to the site only to find the metal collectors had taken a fridge, the stove where I found the king eggs under, and all but one sheet of tin from this spot. The tin and appliances had been there when I found the spot but I have lain many pices of plywood and cardboard out. There are also some piles of carpet and linoleum as well as a truckload of roofing shingles. Curse of modern man is a boon to modern herpers! Anyway here's the two dor's. Warning, if you can't stomach dead animals skip this post. I post them to document the sightings and to make more aware that the roads are no "sanctuary"!
