An interesting thread over on the Bull/Pine/Gopher Forum.

And it didn't just beat it...it creamed it. It is longer than the longest indigo by almost 1 and 3/4 of an inch!

I hope this doesn't take the appeal away from Drymarchon for anybody : )

Reminds me of the big constrictor debate. Retic or anaconda? Heaviest or longest? And then you have someone that feeds a burm a string of chickens til its 450 lbs and messes up everyones head.

They are big snakes, and anything we have record of more than 25 ft., means at some point in history before our record keeping...one of them likely hit a size bigger than anything we have recorded.

But either way...if I have a bull snake (I don't, but I can get one), do I win anything now?

Of course, all these comments are very tongue in cheek.

Very cool info, gotta love hearing about huge snakes!

Big snakes are very cool.

The literature contains many references to 30 ft retics, 'condas, burms and rocks - they all rock!

I like pits a lot and want to get a NJ Pine, mostly because I can almost afford it. My dream snake is an Eastern Indigo, but damint those prices...its hard to spend money I don't got.

Looks like it will be a long time, if ever, before a couperi beats that bull, what with the indigo's habitat getting more and more fragmented.

I still think the indigo would win the fight!

there is a strain of monster bulls out of texas that shannon brown is working with. he once caught a male that was over 9' w/ a stubbed tail but it wouldn't adjust to captivity so shannon released it where he found it the following year. there is a pic of that beast out there somewhere. here's a pic of a young female monster bull [same line] & as you can see, she's pretty irritated about this bull vs indigo thing......

Almost correct but you are mixing up two giant bulls. Shannon did catch a giant bull on 277 that lived for about two or three years and fathered at least one clutch. This snake measured 9' 3" with a stub tail at the time of death. Check with Shannon about the number of clutches cause it could have been more than one.
The one that got released was an 8 footer that was mean as heck and was caught on Juno Rd. by a friend of Shannon and given to him.

I love ‘em all. Bulls are one of my favorites.
But Indigos have a confidence that not many other snakes show. They have a very powerful presence. You can see it in the “half smile” of a large wild animal. “I know, I’m the king “
Bulls are just big and feisty, and that’s what I love about them.
Indigos can muscle down anything, and they seem to know this. Who cares about the freak that beat the record? There can only be one true king. Anyone that has seen a large indigo in the wild knows who it is.
