any one else keep them? I have two and of them is a moody little thing. Anyone else's have a bad attitude? I wanna get another but I can't decide between another nic or another ATB. it's like having to choose between a lotus and a lambourghini I think
I spelled that right.

I have a 1.1 nics and they are both biters but I'd love to have as many of them as I do my other boas.

I have a 5yr old male that has never biten.

I currently have 14 nics, and they are all great. My oldest is an 04 and extremely timid. Only one has an attitude issue.

I have six nics (3.3) and I've noticed some interesting things about them.
As far as the feeding habits and temperaments usually associated with the two sexes, they seem to be the opposite of what's "typical" of the other boas. They all eat great, but my females are pickier than my males (which never refuse food.)
My MALES are really mellow and cool to handle and my FEMALES are "hook only/snap at your face/untouchable" material. Either way, they're all a little high strung compared to common "colombian" BCI. All of these traits are the opposite of what I would expect from comparing them to the BCC and other BCI that I have.
As far as ease of care and handling, the common BCI are my favorites. Don't get me wrong though, I'll definitely get more nics. I just won’t let them near my face!
Here are the two normal nics that I'm attemping to breed right now. (These are old pics.)
Good luck!
Aaron

i have a male blood nic, he is awesome very docile. The only bite was from a feeding mistake.

Steve Irwin you changed the way people look at reptiles forever. Crocodile Hunter you will be missed.

That's cool!
A blood nic?
I thought the bloods came from El Salvador. Is this a new line?
(I'd be surprised if they ONLY came from El Salvador.)
Do you have any pics?

Aaron,

From what I understand, it's probably a blood x Nic. I've seen a few of those for sale this year.

I have what I originally thought to be a hypo Nic that has now taken on much of the appearance of a blood. It is 100% pure Nic. Only breeding trials will tell for sure. He will be paired up this season. I expect something interesting might pop out. There are a TON of interesting things in store for all of us pure Nic fans in the near future.

As with most CA morphs, someone eventually sells them as Nicaraguan even if they are not.

Examples, Leopards (even though Mexico is not in Central America), CA Motleys, and Bloods have all been sold as Nics. I've seen people re-sell het T-plus Albinos as Nicaraguan when they came from Nic T-pos X Cancun breedings or Nic T-pos X CA Hypo (non Nic Hypos without Colombian blood) breedings.

That said, John Berry has a pure Nic female that is HET Blood. Farmed boa that he bred to a PURE El Salvador Blood to produce Hets and he got Bloods as well. Those are his Berry line. However I can not emphasize enough how many times I have heard people say Nicaraguan Blood boas, either that the morph was Nic, that they had one, or have seen one for sale. It is plain wrong.

Bloods are El Salvador in origin. MOST of the ones available are related to the bloodline started by Rich Ihle breeding an El Salvador Blood X Salmon. There are only a few people producing pure El Salvador Blood boas, and a few others who have them and could produce them in the future. I know Tracy Barker, James and Kelly Neville, and John Berry have produced them (and of course Ron St. Pierre before selling off his stock). Bill Gaines, Bill Kirby, Chris Nicholas, and Jeremy Stone have pure El Salvador bloods. I would imagine that Tom Burke and Rich Ihle have some as well, but I am not positive. And I am sure a few others have them, but again, very few producing them. Chris Nicholas and Mike Weitzman did a joint project this year breeding El Salvador Blood male X CA Hypo female to produce the Central American version of a Bloody Hypo in the future.

That's what I was thinking. I hadn't heard of a 100% blood nic yet, but I have no doubt one will be proven soon. Thanks, everybody for the response. Either way, the snake will most likely have the size and color of a CA and be a cool snake for sure.
Good luck, Carl3, and nice snake in the other post.
Are any of you guys breeding nics this year?
Amie, I'm pretty sure you are, right? A nice pair of hets if I remember correctly?

carl3 Dec 15, 2007 10:13 AM

I have somewhere between 50-80 Nics (I haven't counted in a while). Anyway, they are highly variable in terms of attitude. I cannot handle any of my 06's for instance. However, all of my 07's are docile and easy to handle. I attribute this to the time I spend handling them (and lack of time spent with my 06's).
