Well, I lied, the front was moving in fast so I headed south, after piddling around town. At 11:30 I headed down 77 south towards the valley. I stopped at my usual spots and only saw one dor atrox and to my surprise, a kangaroo rat, or something similar, it had a gerbil like tail so I assume... anyway at 3:00 I was pulled over looking in a ditch when out of the last pipe comes you know who, probably the last indigo of the season. It was classic, we turned the corner at the same time and both of us jumped back and froze. He wasn't sure what had happened. Sometimes when you freeze in place, the snake loses track of you, giving you the one chance at the in situ. I was ready this time and got off 4 before he headed out the other direction. I almost left my camera in the truck, as the front was approachingfast, and I had only seen one dor all day. The hawks and caracara were working though, so many more were probably moving throughout the night. It is just this way, the snakes are where they are, you have to get out to see them, and the weather is a major indicator in all my outings. I expect to be skunked soon, lol! it will all equal out. On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me, an indigo near a mesquite tree! Well here's a pic or three of this male, 4 1/2'-5' indigo. He was very stout and muscular, ready for prime time. He was a gentleman and did not strike but hooded and came at me many times to get by me. He was NOT in any kind of attack mode, unlike the female yesterday! She gave me several open mouth bluffs but looked like she meant it! Hope all of you have a safe and blessed holiday season! OOPS, Gotta load the pics, DOH!
