WTSP (St Petersburg, Florida) 11 December 07 Snake bites 7-year-old
Tampa, Florida: A 7-year-old New Tampa boy was bitten by a water moccasin Sunday afternoon. He was transported by ambulance to University Community Hospital, where he is listed in fair condition in the Pediatric ICU.
The boy has received 12 vials of antivenin, average for a potent moccasin bite, doctors say.
The venomous snake bit the boy's bare foot while the boy was playing with friends in a neighbor's yard in the Kingshyre subdivision of Cross Creek. He was attending a birthday party.
Although it is December, it's still warm and venomous creatures are out at a time of year they're usually not seen.
UCH treats an average of five venomous snakebites annually. The patient could be discharged in a few days.
