Obviously youve never had ferets. They are the best pets i have ever had. I would take a ferret over a dog or cat or herp any day. sure they have a little musk but if u change the bedding u dont smell them at all. They smell better than most dogs. So i wouldnt say anything about ferret unless you have had the pleasure of owning one.

I have had the pleasure of owning one and I've said never again. No matter how often you clean the cage...or if they've been descented...you can smell it. Its a very animal musky smell..Living in the house you get used to it..however..go outside for an hour or so and come back in..and there's no way to escape the smell. They're cute....fun to keep..but I'll stick with my dogs..my rats and my reptiles.

NewHerpAddict Aug 25, 2003 11:46 AM

then you probably did not keep your ferret properly because i could leave for days and not smell them. the only way i can smell them is to hold them to my nose. A simple bedding wash once a week and avoid baths and you wont know they are there. and even if they smelled like skunks i would keep them because their personality is really what matters but its your opinion and you are entitled to it.

It was clearly a joke. I have had the pleasure of owning a ferret, and they do have a distinct odor. I'm not saying they stink, just that they have an odor. And a little friendly advice: this is probably not the best place to say you would rather have a ferret than a herp anyday. I don't have any problems with ferrets though. They're the perfect shape for snake food. I'm kidding, I don't feed my python ferrets. They cost too much.

by the way, I can relate to the crazy thing:
1 12ft. Burmese python
1 ball python
1 kenyan sand boa
2 bearded dragons
1 iguana
1 red-earred slider
1 painted turtle
1 map turtle
2 water dragons
17 leapard geckos (& 17 eggs incubating)
2 cats
3 dogs
& a 1 year old son

What kind of snakes do you have?

Rob Woods

Sybella Aug 25, 2003 10:22 PM

A retic I've had for nearly 20 years, 5 false water cobras, 4 gray banded kings, a pacific gopher, a psammophis, 2 florida kings and the rest are corns (anery, sunglow motley, ghost and a few others).

Where do you buys things like a sloth and jaguar?

Rob Woods

khooten Aug 27, 2003 12:13 AM

First, Serval, not Jaguar. Looks like a 50 pound cheetah. Much easier to handle than a 300 pound pussy cat.
Second, you can buy a Giraffe if you've got the cash (for less than some of the Ball morphs out there!) It's rather easy to get farmed imports from certain companys. Look online, you'll be surprised. I'm not suggesting that you go out and buy a Wildebeast, but if you provide correct care and have the time/room/money/climate, more power to you. Also, states, counties, and cities all have different regs on what you can keep. Plus CITES regs, but that goes w/ everything.
If your interested in more details, e-mail me at pangeaexotics@ziplip.com.

I volunteer at the philly zoo (im only 14) and im touchy about some of the animals even being there but come on. Big cats, birds of prey, porcupines and sloths are NOT pets. Its rediculous. One of the animals i work with is a prehensile-tailed porcupine and i would love to have one but I have some common sense. I hope you dont take offense to this but I strongly disagree with you.
