Hey constrictorkeepr OT question

Didn't want to hijack the other thread... but I notice the nice v-neck PJs. I know it's your son, I just can't help wondering how many others here are into martial arts. Are you doing it as well?

well master , as it turns out , i studied jujitsu for two semesters while in college , but the program was canceled , and i fizzled.
however , i realized the value of studying any martial art way back
when , and as soon as my offspring were of age , i got them into a phenomenal taekwondo school. seeing my kids having so much fun caused my wife to join too. now i share a house with two inspirational second degree blackbelts , and their motherunit who also dons the black. i tell every parent i know that raising an awesome kid requires martial arts and music. get them into a good martial arts school, one that competes in and excels at tournaments. i've found that schools that compete tend to be serious about their program. schools that compete and win (as evidenced by the amount of cups, trophies , and medals on their premises )are even better. shoot for that when possible.
and of course , studying music rounds out the whole package. music affects their mind in a way that's different from any other discipline.
congratulations on your level of achievement, as a fifth degree, you're truly in a very small percentage of the population. what art have you mastered ?

That was an old picture. I hold 6th dan in Tae Kwon Do, 4th in GoJu, 3rd in HapKiDo, and 1st in Judo. Been teaching martial arts for over 30 years, mostly in the academic environment (high school and college/university levels).

"i tell every parent i know that raising an awesome kid requires martial arts and music." I couldn't agree more.

My time for going to tournaments is long past. It's my 4th and 5th degree black belt instructors' turn to do all that traveling. LOL And they do a great job! We always have a large group at Jr. Nationals. They are coordinated Mr. Kitagawa (one of my best instructors). ( KIKs Tae Kwon Do) If you go...look for them (black sweats with KIK's Tae Kwondo in red letters) and say hi. They always like to meet new people.

Jr. Nationals is the best experience for young practitioners. It's an awesome presentation that motivates the kids to train hard all year so they can come back... year after year. Now, if senior nations could just learn from that... It would be so much more fun.

great to see kids perform comfortably where most adults would cave from pressure. an absence of self induced anxiety will help them in all aspects of their lives. just one great thing that the martial arts brings to the table.
nice chattin' with ya larry.
seems like we've got our own thread here.
peace , ck
