Dumeril's, Albino Burmese, or GTP?

BrentCBaker Dec 13, 2007 01:55 PM

I currently have a ball python and am wanting to get another snake. All of the above mentioned snakes I will eventualy own, but I'm trying to figure out which one would be a good to get as a second snake. I'm very comfortable handling and caring for boas and pythons of all size. All of the mentioned snakes I have held and am comfortable with. I just need some suggestions and any information possible. Dumeril's Boa, Albino Burmese Python, or Green Tree Python?

I think as a second snake you should stick with a Dumeril's.

Burmese Pythons get large and you might want to seriously consider how you will house and feed such a large snake (they readily reach 10-12 feet, and some get much larger). You also have to consider your local ordinances regarding large constrictors (if there are any) and what you will do with the snake 10 years from now when you don't have the time/interest in keeping a large snake anymore. Getting rid of a big burm is VERY hard to do since they are a dime a dozen.

A Green Tree Python is not a good beginner's snake.
