No Country for Old Men

Nathan Wells Dec 13, 2007 10:49 PM

Have any of you other West Texas aficionados seen this movie? Although most of it was filmed throughout Marfa and some of New Mexico, the stage is supposed to be set in Sanderson. References to many of the places that we enjoy visiting are made almost throughout the entire move. It is a really good movie; a wicked and fairly violent flick about a drug deal gone bad and what not to do if you stumble across someone else's money. Javier Bardem's character is ruthless and both Josh Brolin and Tommy Lee Jones are great at their roles as well. This is a must see for any of you guys that like these types of films. You certainly won't be disappointed. Although probably better that you leave the kids at home for this one...

Yeah the movie is good but the book is better. If you really want to appreciate it. Though I did not know it was based in Henderson, hope to visit west texas someday hopefully this year.

Sorry Sanderson not Henderson.

Yes, this is an excellent movie and I have seen it twice already. I caught so much more the second time around than the first. Still didn't like the ending, but oh well. The thing that sucks is abolsutley none of the scenery is from Sanderson or Del Rio. As you said Nathan, most of it was filmed in new mexico, soem out of Marfa. It would have been cool if they could have filmed some of it at the Outback Oasis or something. Also where the highway 90 split is depicted in the movie does not exist! Did all of you Herpers out there catch this scene? The only place it splits like depicted in the movie is 90/277. I just wish they could once film it where they say it is!!! What a bummer this was. Also, the guy in the office that gets blown away because ol' Javier is pissed that he hired all these thugs to find the money is the dude who played one of the main characters in Office Space. "has anyone seen my swingline stapler?"

We were out looking for diurnal snakes one morning on the farm-to-market road sw of Marfa last year, and were turned back by the crew filming the movie. Really strange to see dozens of vehicles and hundreds of people out there in the middle of nowhere!

I've only seen it once Wayne. The ending pissed me off so I won't pay to see it again. The scenery sure looked like west Texas to me. The actors that played local townspeople cracked me up. Where can I get a weapon like the bad guy had? Just think of all the locked doors and gates we could open with that! LOL. BA

Yeah, the ending sucked so badly that I missed what the hell he said a second time. I kind of went into a daze. B O R I N G!!! Anyway, granted, the River Road on the big hill was a great shot, but this is the only thing that perked me up! Well, I liked the choice of weapons too! (I did not say that) Great scenery, but NOT SANDERSON and NOT DEL RIO! It still pisses me off!! It was all a farce. Someone needs to tell Clint in Sanderson Tommy Lee portrayed him in this movie!

A good bit of the movie was filmed on Tommy Lee Jones' ranch just outside of Van Horn. He's been using his place for his last couple of movies (three burials). I haven't seen the movie yet but some of my friends from around Van Horn and Sierra Blanca were in as extras. I guess I'll have to drop some cash and see this one.

Watch closely Jason, they do make mention of Hudsbeth County!

This is a good flick Nathan. I saw it for the second time tonight...mostly because my buddy and I are in a quarrel about the ending and the Coen Brothers. Give me Lebowski or give me death, said Patrick Henry.
