HELP! SICK VEILED?

bob_the_snowman Aug 25, 2003 10:36 AM

hello, we have a veiled chameleon whos an adult, when we first got her she was a gorgeous greenish colour, then one day we decided to get her a mate and we put them in the same cage, they fought at first, but then we decided it was best to seperate them...so we did. Ever since then she has been a darkish colour, she eats well, she has foilage in her cage and such, her colour is like a darkish brownish-green...is she sick? any suggestions ( we feed her crickets) and she has a dripper thing for water.
Thanks

Hi Bob,

How old is the female now?
How old was she when you placed her with the male?
Has she any bright color spots? Yellow... blue...?
How old is the male?
Just how did they "fight"..??

You might try a more varied diet too... superworms, silkworms, small roaches, moths, waxworms for treats. Do you mist their enclosures - or just the drip? How long does it drip?

Dark color in a female veiled does not mean illness always - more likely it is her mood. She may be depressed or mildly aggitated.

the females coloring at the moment is brownish grayish with darker brown spot and two slightly large light colored spots(not really yellow more white i think)as for age,i am uncertain but she is fairly large,i orignally had no intention of breeding them but the person i bought them off of said they could live fine together as long as the enclosure was spacious enough, the male is fairly young(and i highly doubt he was able to breed he's only about two thirds of the size)the male was definatly the aggressor as he jumped on her back and started biting her, several minutes later she shook him off bit and he ran and hid under a bush,i decided then after to get a seperate tank for him,he's been out of her view for about two weeks now,so if she's going to lay eggs, what should i have for an egg laying box??thanks any help would be greatly apprecciated!!

Probably not sick, but showing non-receptive coloration to the male or she's gravid with infertile eggs. Can she see him from across a room? She will continue to react to him if she sees him at all. Female veileds produce eggs whether they mate or not generally, so she will need a laying bin soon. Keep track of her weight. As the eggs develop she will gain weight and get quite round and bulky looking. She will need to lay the eggs at some point.
