Any Ideas on This Girl?

boachris Dec 14, 2007 11:26 PM

I know she's BCI, and I also know that everyone thinks that there is something different about their BCI... That said, I'm wondering about a couple of color observations on this girl.

First of all, her orange head spot, what is that all about. Second, her sides seem almost purple, and they get more purple with each shed. Is this normal? She's about 4' 3" right now.
Thanks for any input or ideas. I know it's just guesswork!
Here's the orange. Camera doesn't quite get it all.

Here's the sides. In real life, it looks darker purple.

Just for fun! Can never get enough close-up head shots!

Thanks!!!

She might be a nicaraguan BCI since she has the colored neck stripe and her head looks like a nic shape to me as well.

Nic would be my first guess

Has got that chestnut splotch on the nape of the neck. That's what Bluefields Nics are known for.
Looks like a Nic in all other aspects, too.

Looks a lot like a Nica. . . Some of my costa ricans have that dark purplish/blueish lateral coloration as well, but that head is all Nica.

I was gonna say that exact same thing. I remember looking to buy some of them bluefields because they had something different.

It doesn't look like a Nicaraguan to me (based on the pictures). I'm not sure what locality it could be...Central American of some origin perhaps? Do you have any full body shots of her?

jscrick Dec 15, 2007 01:42 PM

Second choice would be Costa Rican

Let me know what you think!
Thanks!

A lot of Central American traits, I think that boa is a mutt though. Has a lot of traits that also existed in many of my poss het Blood offspring this year, and their lineage traces back to an El Salvador Blood X Salmon boa breeding.

Granted its a Central American ssp.
But its clearly far closer to a Costa Rican then a Nicaraguan.
Nice healthy looker as well

Thanks for all the input! After looking at tons of pictures, I can see an argument for either Nic or Costa Rican. Maybe she was born on the border!

Does anyone have any opinions on breeding her? I don't know if it's irresponsible to do so not knowing her exact blood. If I was going to, should I just breed her to a normal Columbian, or being a dwarf, should I get another Costa or Nic? Some of my favorite dogs are mutts, maybe it works for snakes too!

Any opinions?

There are relatively few CR in the US. Every single one of them should have CITES that accompany them. Any boa older than an '04 is highly unlikely to be a CR, and only one shipment came in in '04.
