pastel lemon genetic

EvoMorphs Dec 15, 2007 12:04 AM

Hi Im new to ball pythons I breed boas but ahve the chance at a lemon pastel male. Is $150 a fair price for an 07. I was wondering how the genetics work on this morph. If its like a hypo boa where you breed it to a normal and get 50% lemon pastel and 50% normal or do I need a lemon pastel female to go with the male to produce these. If you could start me in the right direction Id love to learn more about the genetics of the ball python
thanks

Pastels are co-dom...You can breed a Pastel to a Normal and produce Pastels. If you breed Pastel x Pastel you can get a Super Pastel.

A lemon pastel is a prettier pastel in general. You can still get pretty and not so pretty in the same clutch of any pastel clutch. They aren't consistantly uniform. Best bet is to be able to see them and pick the one you like best. If you can't see them in person, next best is to ask to see a pic of the one you want. And stil most will brown out as they age. Just some thoughts.

The label "lemon" designates the pastel as having been from the Lemon Pastel lineage from NERD. Pastels from the lemon line are believed to be arguably better quality than a pastel from other lines and sometimes command a slightly higher price tag. If you are purchasing the snake for breeding purposes I would suggest breeding the snake to a high quality female to ensure your offspring the best chance of not being an ugly snake-ling.
