"is melamine a good material for housing geckos?"
-Melamine is a great material for building racks, display cages, etc..
"if i us heat tape do i need to use a red bulb and for the heat tape do i put it under the whole tank or just part???"
-You should cover only 30% of the tank with heat tape (controlled by a thermostat).
Red bulbs are used for raising air temperature. You should use them only if your room temp´s are very low. Otherwise they are unnecessary. IMO
