Shy eater after eating ordeal

Herplover95 Dec 15, 2007 12:17 PM

Hello,
A few months back I posted about my 2 1/2 year old corn not eating after almost 2 years of me owning her. That whole time she ate fine and was never a bashful eater. After a couple of weeks I noticed that it was my fault all along and I had plugged the UTH into the timer along with the lights. That solved the problem and then she's been eating ever since. But now she's always afraid of either me or the mouse while eating. I used to be able to put a paper towel in the cage, get her to chase the mouse on the towel and eat it so she didn't ingest any aspen. Now she wont go on the towel and she wont stay out to eat. Once I get near her with the tongs she lets go of the mouse and acts afraid of it. Do you know what I could do to get her back to normal? Am I doing anything wrong?

I would guess its like a dog that doesn't get food. She just is concerned that you are going to take the food away, so she wants to eat in hiding.
How is she as far as regular handling? If she is shy there as well, I'd say handle her more.
Have you tried frozen/thawed or prepped mice (freshly killed)? It's easier and safer all around.

I hope this helps

Yes it did help! Thank you very much. She is not really shy. She's always been very calm and never jumpy. I am feeding F/T from rodentpro. She's been eating their mice since she's been with me.
