Consequences

Bladespark Dec 15, 2007 07:31 PM

Well, I still haven't been able to afford a rainbow, and the last bit of childishness here was the final straw.

I'm through.

If I do get a rainbow, I'll be finding advice for it just with google. I'm sick to death of snake people acting like five year olds on forums. This was the last forum I was actively part of, and now I'm through here too.

I know you're not all like that, but too high a percentage of you are, and I'm tired of dealing with it. I'm posting this to let you know that your insults, pranks, and cruel jokes have consequences.

Hmmm... I don't know. It seems a little silly to just storm off like this. I assume you're referring to rdude's anery prank. I guess I really don't see the big deal. The guy came forward and admitted it was a hoax. No one got taken advantage of, no tempers flared. All seems good in the rainbow boa neighborhood.

It's probably been said on many many forums but you must realize that when a group of people get together, there are bound to be some things that rub you the wrong way. If we all washed our hands of everything that was mildly disagreeable to us, no one would ever experience anything.

On the other hand, sticking around and contributing to the forum in a positive manner will make this a better place for everyone. Take a break if you have to but don't feel like you have to deal in ultimatums. As far as I'm concerned, this is still the best resource online for info on rainbow boas. I think most people are still comfortable asking any question without fear of reprisal. And many times, we can actually come up with an answer. There are certainly other resources and other breeders to buy from. But the people here still have a solid reputation.

I hate to see a person walk away with hard feelings. If you decide to come back, the door is always open.

I have to agree with Mike although I do not remeber the incidents that Bladespark is refering to other then rdudes recent childish behavior.

Don't let the things that rub you the wrong way taint all the other things with the group. And definitely if you need to take a breather by all means do so but don't feel like you can't come back.

Sean.

I'm referring to a repeated pattern of immature behavior and jokes I find in bad taste. This was just the last and worse straw. It's not funny to make fun of somebody for owning a snake you don't like, for example, which was my very first welcome to this forum, seeing someone baited and mocked for having a Columbian. And then I was similarly mocked for wanting a ball python, which I found in extremely poor taste.

And I'm sure you're going to say that no harm was meant and it was all in good fun, but if that kind of thing is considered fun here, than I don't went to be here, so I'm gone. And there's no way on earth I'm coming back, this comment is it.

sean1976 Dec 16, 2007 10:31 PM

I would like anyone who is civil and interested in the hobby to participate on the forum but are you serious?

I would expect most people, especially those complaining about immaturity, to be able to distinguish between friendly banter and insultive behavior. If anyone actually said something in an offensive or genuinely critical(meaning not sarcasm or other friendly joking) then I would be critical of it. That being said I do not remember many if any instances of that. Also every instance of comments about ball pythons that I remember reading was definitely either informative or humorous(non-offensively) in nature.

I appologize if I missed some genuine instances of malicious behavior but I am forced to assume that you are misinterpretting the nature of a large portion of the posts. Either way even if true then there is no reason to burn bridges. No one can or would force you to come to the forums but you could possibly want or need something from here in the future. I hope you don't leave with hard feelings.

Sincerely,

Sean.

Where is Rodney King when you need him??

Seriously, am I missing something? Other than this recent juvenile stunt, where are the "insults, pranks, and cruel jokes" in this forum??

Personally, this forum would be my primary source of information if and when I get a RB. Experienced breeders like Dave, Jeff, Mike, etc. have always been helpful, open-minded and personable, at least since I've been reading/posting in the forum. Even most of the younger folks (notice I said "most" seem very mature for their ages.

Thanks,
Ed

but it was only aimed at the biggest pic poster on the forum oooops I told on you Dave but was only immaturity and was from a new poster but my momma said you should respect your elders especially when Dave has the collection he does
Bob

natsamjosh Dec 15, 2007 09:04 PM

Must have missed that one. I definitely respect for my elder Dave, that's why I held back on some "insults" and "cruel jokes" in the thread about him and his "small facility."

Okay, that was juvenile, sorry if I offended anyone!

Thanks,
Ed

Dave out of it or did I bring him in it? I guess it is just another THREAD JACKING then so I should go ahead and change the my heading but oh well. Dave has about 115 (my guess) all kept in one room I believe although not full grown and he makes a lot of magic happen and of course the rodents out back but that is quite a collection he has as he is so "diversified" in a quite a few bci's and has the almost the best stock in everything brb in his "distint" collection so that makes me a little pissed off so I just plan on getting some of his offspring to fix that problem of mine hahalol So I can't imagine if Dave if ever goes that route the potential of offspring he will be able to make in a building dedicated to them Ed but one day if he does choose to do so I wish him the best
Bob

natsamjosh Dec 15, 2007 10:43 PM

I was just joking around. I have no room to make fun of anyone's facility, since I probably have the smallest out of anyone in the forum!

I know you were busting some chops but I was just elaborating on it though cuz Ed I have been told on many occassions that I "ramble" which I try to keep to a minimum and have gotten much better in the last 6 months or so but I guess I just got a relapse but hell I'm not perfect Ed but if you get the chance to watch Anaconda Adventure on the discovery channel, it's an hour show but the last 5 or 6 minutes left they show a wild brazilian rainbow and it was pretty cool. Well sorry if I went in the wrong the direction but I can't joke about Dave so close to throwing him in the pot so I'll wait til the next reply to take a jab at him myself
Bob

p.s. did that indigo poop lately? and does any part of the lizard come out recognizable???

natsamjosh Dec 16, 2007 12:07 PM

Thanks, I'll check out that show. No worries about "rambling", everyone has his/her own style. That's what makes a forum fun, imo.

Not much poop at all, almost so little I'm getting a little worried. Isn't that ironic? No lizard parts so far.
He's going to shed in the next day or two, I'll try to get some new pics.

Thanks,
Ed

to hear that you're leaving. Please don't take any senseless jokes to heart people just like to kid around at times. It may be immature, but that's life. I'm sorry that you feel you must leave the forum completely to prove your point. Please feel free to return and post any questions you may come up with, if you get a rainbow of your own. I do feel that this is the best place on the web to get information. Your questions will be answered to the best of the knowledge of everyone here in a friendly and efficient manner.

this really is a good forum, been quite some time without any real foolishness. Just a lot of good natured humor and MOSTLY folks with the same passion for a really great species of snake getting together and sharing knowledge, experience and a ton of pics. (LOL, I take more than my fair share of blame not only for my multitude of pics but also more them my fair share of ribbing.

Like Mike said, take some time if you want/need. But please don't burn the bridge, you're always welcome back!!

Can you really turn your back on.....

She was at the San Jose show this year. If I have room in my display cases (so far always have) I try to take some extreme examples. Also want an adult BRB around for example of size.

Bladespark,
....You can go through life glad or sad and it is entirely up to you to decide which it is going to be. People who take offense where none was intended can find all sorts of things to make themselves angry and unhappy. The overall CONSEQUENCE will be that they will live an angry and unhappy life. Life is too short to waste any of it looking for things to be unhappy about. The people posting and joking here include some with decades of experience keeping and breeding Rainbow Boas. You are not going to find better information anywhere else.
Jeff

I'm older than dirt and I've been on the internet almost since it's birth. I've seen discussions like this over and over and over. One thing I can be sure of is that they will not go away. You will find these discussions on every message board you ever go to. Humor is subjective and it is multi-dimensional. Some dimensions are missing in print. You can't see the person grin, wink or see the raised eyebrow. You can't hear the fluctuation in their voice. When you come to a message board, watch and you will see a pattern. Learn the tones and humor of the board. If you are actually insulted or badgered, use the report button and we will help. But also consider that you just may not understand the humor of a board yet.

You should be able to tell from the responses you have received that no one wanted to hurt you or exclude you. They have taken the time to ask you not to leave and to apologize if you were hurt. Please take this into consideration. You won't find better information than this board because not only are there some longtime experts who are willing to share their experience, but if someone comes along and gives bad advice, it is corrected immediately. That way you can be more sure of the information. Google does not provide that.
