I agree, some poeple could be nicer.

I just read on a a previous thread that draybar wrote about forums, and I have to agree with him on this. I am very new to cornsnakes and I have found this to be the best place for info when something unexpected arises. I have tried a couple other places and either people dont awnser or they seem like I am bothering them because I asked a question an experienced person would know. I have asked some probably simple or even silly questions here and have never caught any grief or problems with people here at all. It has actually made me more excited about my corns knowing that I have a place to go when something arises that I havn't seen before. I don't know why people wouldn't want to help a new person even if for nothing else you could make a snakes life more enjoyable or even save its life. I really appreciate the people on this forum giving me the help I needed and awnsering some of my questions even if they seem a little basic and maybe even something I should already know. I have learned alot here and I hope that maybe some of the questions I have asked may help someone else who is scared to ask them. Sorry to kind of take so long on this but after the way I was treated at another place I feel very strong about it.

I understand what happened to you and rules are rules I guess. I was more so trying to comment on the fact that the people on this forum are much more helpful than anywhere alse I have been. And that if more people out there were as nice as the people have been here then maybe more people would enjoy this hobby.

therin lies the problem...too many people look at it as a business or even a competition instead of what it is for most...a hobby
anytime we can help others enjoy the hobby we are helping ourselves.
The more knowledge that goes out through the whole community the better the chances of new ideas.
everyone has bad days and can be a little confrontational (especially me...lol) but overall this is still one of the friendlier forums for us to enjoy.

I agree. This forum is far more active than most. It also has several knowledgeable people who regularly post their insights and advice. I've seen plenty of information on other forums that is incorrect - which doesn't help the person seeking answers. This corn snake forum is the best one out there by far!

I have tried other forums and never found anything near as nice as this one. Including the people. Nothing irritates me more than when you go to a forum and everyone is ranting about the "newbie" questions. But when you ask a serious, thoughtfull question, nobody will reply to it! 2 weeks later and no response, but 150 ppl had their say about the newbs! I do feel though, that almost all of the newbie questions can be answered by reading a good book **Plug Don's book here** But I am still happy to answer your questions no matter how simple the answer may be

You know, this forum actually used to be much more active. I first came around about 4 years ago. Back then, corn forum was the highest posted in, in hte top 10 forums here on Kingsnake.
It is still a great place to get good information. Once in a while we get those who give attitude, but they don't last long.
I have always appreciated the help I have received here as well. I figure helping others when they post is a way to help repay the kindness received. Another thing I love about this forum is the "big names" in Corns post here as well and are willing to help out us "small breeders" and newbies.
I hope this makes sense.

Agreed. This is the best forum for corn snakes by far, and probably the best forum on KS as well as far as having a lot of good natured, friendly and at the same time knowledgeable people who will patiently answer any and all questions. I first came here 3 years ago and the people here have been great in educating me on the corn hobby.

This forum is fantastic, good people experience = good times for all.

As far as the activity level just keep in mind that it is the holiday/finals season and that peoples real lives will cyclicly limit their forum time.

As far as other forums on KS go I have to plug another good one as well, namely the rainbow boa forum. While I don't think either is really better then the other both of them have the same good natured friendly type of people making up almost everyone on them.

Merry Christmas everyone,

Sean.

I reckon that to some extent the activity level on this forum has declined due to the explosion in the Ball Python market. I think overall interest in colubrids has declined due to this. After that market "flattens out," folks will come back.

I also think that the corn snake books out on the market are excellent and answer a lot of questions that people used to have before they became aware of the books.

I read Don's book over the summer and it's the best for first time owners. Kathy's book is great for those interested in breeding. There's a wealth of information out there that wasn't available when I started keeping snakes and I think it's great that so many resources are around.

Thanks Misty,

I'll be breeding that male to this female in 2008 and am looking forward to seeing the results. They're both striped ghosts with reduced pattern.

Yup, Tim's snake is spankin'. I've known him for some time and he has top of the line stuff, PERIOD. He's been at it a long time, so has had the opportunity to collect super specimens.

I saw his bloodred male he called a 7! Yea right. It was super. I'm not a super fan of dark bloodred and personally prefer a lighter red, but I know what the market wants/likes, and his male is a killer.

I just hope my money is still good with Tim?

First I have NEVER been a forum person. I hate scrolling endless pages with wandering ideas.

This forums format I like. I can view a long list of thread topics and pick ones that seems good.

I have a very good friend that hates this type. So, I guess we all like different things. Go figure.

My vote is PLEASE stay with this forum format.

I do wish people my tweak subjects as they reply. Just my opinion. That way I have an idea where it is going.

Kathy Love likes to start out her subject in the topic then... and continues it inside. Same idea, it lets the viewer have an idea even more if they might want to read it.

Just my 2 cents.

I am predominantly a lurker but this is the only forum on which I lurk consistently because I really don't like the format that all the others seem to use. I, too, like to be able to look at a thread and pick and choose what to read. I also agree that there are some of the most knowledgeable and helpful people here that I have come across on the web. I would count myself as an intermediate (about 12 years) as experience goes and I continually learn things here....makes it fun. Just adding my two cents....for what it's worth.

I hope it continues. I love the new tabs, hated the tiny fonts on links. But got use to it, and proved I needed glasses. lol

I really REALLY hate the lightbox image feature. Just me, 1 vote, I go with the flow. But if I close it wrong, it loses track of where i was, and the link is not "used link" as in a different color.

While in gripe mode, and just reading a funny George Carlin email, let me to my KS inpersonation of Carlin.

I'm really tired of seller that post they are in the USA. Thanks for the grand insite (*&^&^%*(**&%^%) maybe if ya put a city or a state, it might peak an interest if someone could do a pick up and not pay shipping.

and may persuade me to read a particular post even if I don't read the whole thread. Besides, I don't like just copying and re-copying the same old subject line - too boring!

I didn't like the other format style either, at first. Took a long time to get used to it, but I am very used to it now. I kind of like how the older subjects keep bouncing to the top if people are still interested in them enough to resurrect them.

Rob - judging by your animals and projects, I think you might have passed "intermediate" some time back, lol!

HerpZillA Dec 20, 2007 11:24 PM

I just can't seem to follow it.

Maybe to many back meds lol

Happy Holidays Kathy.

And thanks for the personal help you provided to me many times, but especially when we had never chatted, you were willing to chat on the phone over my first blood red years ago. Your a class act.
