Before I forget, just wanted to wish everyone Happy Holidays. Anyone doing anything special over the holiday break? Anyone getting a nice Rainbow Boa (or any other reptile) as a gift?
Thanks,
Ed
Welcome to kingsnake.com's message board system. Here you may share and discuss information with others about your favorite reptile and amphibian related topics such as care and feeding, caging requirements, permits and licenses, and more. Launched in 1997, the kingsnake.com message board system is one of the oldest and largest systems on the internet.

Well I'm not doing anything special in herp terms but I am FINALLY GRADUATING!! Wahoooo! I mean I love mathematics but this last semester has been killing me. I'm gonna seriously have to review all the material after graduation to fully absorb it all.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Sean.

Aubrey Ross
...better be college! Otherwise the High School has some explaining to do having a 31 year old wandering campus. Not to mention explaining having the students prove calculus. Which is the only final I'm stressing over, second half of real analysis.
Thanks for the congrats Aubrey.
Merry Christmas,
Sean.

Ahhh... I see! I suppose I should have known that the number in your username was probably your birth year, huh? Well, good luck on your exam... I took the 1st Calculus class in High School, and never went back for the 2nd!
I feel like I am OK with numbers... but that stuff was crazy!

Aubrey Ross
Well to be honest the calculus series and differential equations(basically engineering applications of calculus) are the last courses in a math program where you are really doing computations. All upperdivision coursework is proofs classes.
The "real analysis" two part series I am currently finishing is going back and prooving why everything in calculus works and why it is legitimate to use it.
Also alot of the time math gets a bad rep because there are so many bad or just not good math teachers out there. I mean really for calculus there are only two basic concepts. The first is the idea of a limit and the second is the idea of infinite subdivisions. If you have those two then everything else is just application of them in different situations. Thats not to say it doesn't get complicated in those situations though lol
Merry Christmas,
Sean.

X plus F(1) = Y
X = male snake
F(1) = (1 plus N)
N = Number of extra female snakes
Y = Number of baby snakes!
(Why won't it show the plus signs???)
Yeah..... I'm a dork
(P.S. It has been a long time since I have been in math class so I'm sure I messed up the formula somehow, lol)

LOL, real problem is Y is in itself a huge variable, anywhere from 0 to 34 in my experience so far. And can even take on a negative value
in some situations.

Or would it be a geek?? Anyway, you got me curious. The plus sign must me a special character in HTML. To have the plus sign displayed, you have to type "(ampersand character)#43".
Obviously, don't literally type the "(ampersand character)",
type the actual character.
Dave will send a pearl baby to the first fellow nerd who posts the meaning of #43.

Congratulations on your graduation, that's great. What degree are you getting?
LOL about the math. I did pretty well in that area in college, but now (20 years later), I can't even fathom trying to figure out integrals or a differential equation! Wouldn't even remember where to start!

Got three already. Oldest just started high school, so we haven't gotten to the harder stuff yet. Luckily my brain hasn't deteriorated enough to where I can't do algebra and geometry, but you never know what tomorrow will bring...
>>Have kids!!!

LOL actually the degree I'm getting is my bachelors in mathematics. I don't think any of the other degree's actually require a year of "real analysis"(proving claculus on the real numbers) or of "modern algebra"(group theory and ring theory).
I love the subject, gotta love logic and puzzles, but I'll be glad to be done with the first degree so i can take some time to relax the pace and actually absorb it in more detail. Thanks for the congrats

Sean.

The current plan is to get my credential while teaching high school math in an internship program. Then after the credential is done to teach high school while taking one class at a time towards one of three degree's. Most likely a Masters in Mathematics or a Masters in Computer Science. The less likely degree I'm considering is a Bachelors in applied/forensic chemistry. Once I finish my next degree it will depend on how much I liked teaching as to whether I keep the teaching job or double plus my income by going private sector.
Either way it will be nice to be taking classes at a relaxed pace and just for fun again. Also, because of when I'm graduating, I am going to be doing 1/3-1/2 a year of substitute teaching before entering the internship program in the summer.
Merry Christmas,
Sean.

As I was saying, nothing wrong with that, I'll be doing the same. Maybe take the kids on a few day trips. I'd really like to go to the Duke Primate Center to see some lemurs,
maybe I'll look into that.
I look forward to seeing your new BCI's.

Thanks for the holiday wishes, Ed! Right back at ya!
My brother and I are going to Iowa to visit the family. I'm not getting a Rainbow Boa, but my significant other got me the back half of a male Woma Python! (Yes, the back half, lol.) I bought the front end.
I have to wait until spring to get him shipped, though.

Aubrey Ross
Thanks Aubrey, have a safe trip.
I was fully expecting a whole number as an answer to my question, but I guess 1/2 is just as good as long as you are getting the other half along with it.
Woma's are great looking snakes, I like the black "eyebrows." Please post some pictures when you get it. And if someone jokes around about it being a non-BRB,.... well, never mind, I'll keep my thoughts to myself on that issue. I'm sure you'd actually have a sense of humor about it.

Aubrey, how sweet of your man... to get you the end that lays eggs
Dave, I'm with you. A quiet holiday spent hovering over my serpents. No reptile gifts for me this year. Unless my chondros decide to give me eggs.
