Neg to feeding during breeding season?

Norse79 Dec 16, 2007 10:25 PM

I read a post below and just want to clarify... Are there negatives to feeding during breeding season? I've been feeding them as normal. 12 out of my 14 haven't stopped eating (once a week for females and once every 2 weeks for males).

Egg binding was mentioned in the post below.

Would it prevent them from "getting in the mood"? I've only witnessed 2 lockups from 1 out of the 3 males I am rotating.

Comments and advice is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I still offer food to any that will eat. Most of my males ate up to about 2 weeks ago. Most of my females stopped eating about a month ago, but still may feed occasionally. I've never really heard of egg binding in balls but that doesn't mean it couldn't happen.

I wouldn't worry about not seeing many lockups just yet. It's still very early in the game. I've witnessed every female of mine with definite locks several times so far, but I'm sure it will last for a couple months longer. I still had breeding in april last season.

Good luck and try not to worry about it so much. If it happens is happens.

I offer meals every week , The females that continue to eat seem to bounce back quicker! Towards the end of the season I offer smaller meals. Good luck to you !

I continue to offer food, but most of my adult snakes stop eating once temps start dropping at night.

I don't see what the harm would be in continuing to offer food during breeding season. I doubt that in the wild they'd pass up a meal just because it was between November and February!
