Andean vs ecuadorian

Jonasgn Dec 17, 2007 11:57 AM

Which one gets bigger in your opinion?
And what about ther availability and price?
And last how are they to care for? (Easy, hard etc) (need cooling?)

Thanks a lot

Jonas

From what I've seen, they both reach 5 feet and an occasional animal will reach 6.
Care is easy, not much different from hondos; a couple of hide spots and temps of 77-80. There's no misting or high heat needed. Cooling is probably best done at 65 or so similar to the tropicals in general....maybe somebody with more experience will weigh in also.
I see quite a few andesiana in classifieds but not many micros currently - they should become more accessible in the next 3-5 years tho.

Are there reputable breeders breeding true/pure micropholis?
Who brought them in? From where?
When?

Its not a matter of legit animals being produced. There are no pure micropholis in the hobby period. What is being bred is as close as we have for now and they are micropholis x andeans from the low lands of Columbia (Popayan).
And to my knowledge nobody is breding there Popayan's with anything but other Popayan's so thats good.

Well said Shannon. Those babies you got are looking fantastic and really putting on some size. They should make some nice adults.
Here's a pic of some of their siblings just hours after they hatched.

Does that mean the Popayan/lowland form is as close to true micropholis as there is right now? Just trying to catch up.
