ceiling lights

phantompoo Dec 17, 2007 10:10 PM

I was wondering if anyone had pics of lighting fixtures they've mounted in cages. I'm mounting a basic ceiling socket in the lid of the cage for my ackies (the light is going to be inside the cage) I am thinking of angling the light somehow so as to cover more space with the light's heat and have it less concentrated. Straight up and down its almost too close to the bottom of the cage.

thanks.

btw I'm a teacher and I had the shop teacher cut me a piece of acrylic to size as the lid to the cage. He gave me it for free. How nice is that

If you think it is two close then you might want you light on the outside you dont want your ackies reaching up and burning themselves. And i wouldn't really angle it in my opinion because if I am correct i know with monitors and i believe ackies, i dont have any ackies, That they like a hot basking spot and love to bask so you would want a lot of heat in one spot and just warm it in the others. I have a 2' savannah monitor and he just loves to lay and bask.

ehh, I like to use lower wattage floods, on dimmers even. This allows for less of a "burning hot" bulb and still creates a good basking spot of at least 135. I'm not talkin about a huge angle here either, just a slight angle. If they can get too close, ill just recess it a bit. I was more interested in just seeing fixtures other people used and how they wired it. (mostly just for safety reasons)

I use outdoor ceramic fixtures that are made so you can angle the light how you want. They are available at home depot and the like. The wiring is the same as any other fixture.

Keep in mind that in a few years incandescent light bulbs will be banned in the US.

I haven't heard anything about that....I don't think they will be banning flood lights anytime soon...

I haven't fully read the bill, but they'll be starting with higher wattage incandescent bulbs. The phase out is supposed to start by 2010 and fully done anywhere from 2012-2020.
