About three hours.

3 hours? He would be lucky to get that! I say less than 10 minutes.

If you can't afford to care for it properly, dont buy it.

What's an ORNATE Nile Monitor? Two different species, haven't been known as Ornate Niles, since 97.

Cheers,
Chad

Realistically you will get about 3 or 4 months out of it and after that you will need a custom built cage. A 75 gallon tank is fine for temporary housing while you work on a cage, especially if you happen to have an empty one laying around. However it would be a dumb idea to go out and buy one as like I said it won't be useful for long and once you have had a monitor in a tank you can forget about ever using it for fish as monitors tend to shred the silicone really bad so unless you are really good at re-sealing tanks once a monitor has been in it it's a reptile tank from them on.

Do you have any idea of what the growth rate of ornatus is if it is given what it needs? From what I understand it's about the same for ornates as it is for niloticus, and any other species for that matter. I own two niles. Mine went from 10" to nearly three feet in three months and my husbandry sucked back then. I have some pictures from the last few months, I only have photos form when mine were small. This male is about eighteen months old and is around five and a half feet. The first pic is from this past August, the others are from last week.

Last week.

I would not even consider putting an ornatus in a fishtank.

Well...I am the Mad Axe man...If you reread my post you may notice I was telling the guy to only use it as temporary housing and in fact was being nice about discouraging him from using a 75 at all. btw you must be really brave to run around carrying a badger on your shoulder like that.

Ha ha ha, actually, I've been using mice to lure the bugger up to my chest. I'm not sure if I plan to continue this practice since I have some nice deep scratches on the back of my neck from that episode. Also a friend told me that he was bitten on the ear by a nile doing something similar.

Pay no mind to the booger in my nose.
