ornate or Mcfadyeni uromastyx

sojammer Dec 18, 2007 12:48 AM

Hello all I have a coulple wild caught Mali uro's that I have had for a few years. I was at the Daytona herp show this summer and came across some ornate that looked great. I fell in love with their blues and greens to the point that I can't get them out of my mind. Does anyone have some of these animals and if so how are they as pets? We have lots of herps so care is not a problem. Thanks much

The blue ones are great, aren't they? I'd definitely recommend the ornates. I have two and they're quite friendly and charming - toward people. My two can't be kept together. As a species they're said to be fairly laid-back and hardy like the Malis. The only thing going against them is they tend to be more expensive.

From what I hear about McFads, they're very flighty, shy, and extremely hard to acclimate. They're gorgeous, but unless you're up to quite a challenge, probably not the top choice.

I should have picked some up in Daytona this year but I thought I would cruise the place and grab a couple on the way out. Bad idea there. They were sold out.
Got any idea where I could pick up a pair?
