I read on David Blair's website that he feeds his Cyclura a vegetarian diet with the occasional crickets for treat. He said the rhino don't readily eat the crickets as the cuban hybrid for some reason.
is there anything thats poisonous to them???
if you can eat it , they can too. this pertains to what you should feed them
Here is a link to greens and veggies you can feed your iguana. Stay away from Rubarb, which is poisonous.

I didnt think of it cause I have never use it. nice catch
thanks...i dont think i would have feed this to him anyway....is it ok to feed them bugs as treats???
yeah, if it eats them. It will probably grow out of them. They sometimes get aggressive when you feed animal protein. To me its more trouble than its worth. A veggie diet is best for them. There are some who will feed them mice and other protein. Like I sad on the the other forum, no one really knows how much is good or bad for them. Do the research, talk to other long term keepers and decide whats best for you. More importantly, have the right temps so no matter what you feed your rhino can digest and use the food properly.

whats your hot spot temp and cold side temps.......i got him at high 70's-low 80's on the cold side and mid to high 90's on the hot side......is this sound right???
my ambient varies a lot due to the size of the enclosure and access to outside. It rarely goes below 65 it has gone as high as 100. it averages somewhere in the 80s. my basking sight is 134. Thats using a temp gun right under the light. They could stand it hotter. most do not have the basking site for cyclura (iguanas too)hot enough. If 90s is your hot spot you should be up around 120-150
thanks...i will get a hotter light bulb tonite...
Yes, you can give them bugs as treat or mice or roasted chicken, but animal protein should make up a fraction of their diet. Their diet should be primarily greens and veggies.
It is believed that too much animal protein can overwork the kidneys and livers like the green iguanas, but these guys can have a little animal protein...not much, though!
