Am I the only one who likes Argentines?

Nokturnel Tom Dec 19, 2007 11:38 AM

I like all Rainbow Boas, and understand why Brazilians seem to be most popular. I am just wondering if I am missing something since I don't often see Argentines on the classifieds or posted on this forum? I don't often impulse buy but I was going to treat myself to one for Xmas and of course there were none to be had when I looked.
Are these more difficult to keep, breed, or sell than the other types? I mainly breed colubrids so honestly I don't know much about them. I'd sure like to see some pics

I think you may have answered your own question. As they are less popular, there are fewer folks working with them and fewer available.

Actually I am wondering "why" they're not as popular.....

Like you said to Jeff, I think people gravitate to the more colorful BRB's.

I know I love the colors of my BRB's!!

i know for sure im more drawn to the colors of the BRBs, im really quite impressed with the bright orange ones. my next snake will be a high orange BRB for sure, in fact i kinda allready have an idea as to which one i want. just hope she will still be avilable in a few months when im closer to ready to buy one... Dave you'll be hearing from me

LOL, I hope for your sake the one you want is still available. Sales are sporadic but I have already sold over half of what I produced this year with another 10% on hold not yet paid for. Looks like I may run out before show season - AGAIN!! ie not have any yearlings for the table, only newborns!!

Tom,
....I have a pair of Epicrates cenchria alvarezi that have produced litters the last two years. Both litters were very male heavy. There are only a few people breeding them and the litters are fairly small so you do not see so many of them for sale. I like this subspecies because they are more inquisituve than other Rainbow Boa subspecies and are also active during the day. Because of their inquisitiveness they seemingly have lots of personality. They also are smaller and easier to care for than the other subspecies.

How is the disposition? I love the red and orange snakes just like everyone else but I think these are also very impressive. Some other subs lose their patterns yet seem to be more popular? Thanks for the pics, I have had my eye on this snake for a few years now and think I will go for these when i purchase my first Rainbow. Thanks again

Tom,
....Most of my litters of babies have been calm and quicker to tame than BRBs. My adults are totally calm and tame.

If I got another species of Rainbow, I'm sure it would be an Argentine. I don't really know why, but I like them!

I say if you want one (or two, or three...), go for it!

my friend has this one

you got to love these suckers too

and if you like those Argentines then the Longicauda of Peru takes the cake

and I also like the Argentine Rainbows but unfortunately nobody other than Jeff shares with us on a regular basis but you can change that best of luck when you decide to get one
