Misting to bring temp down...

iso Aug 25, 2003 01:46 PM

Would it be safe to mist my chams cage about 15 minutes before lights go off? Id like to bring the temp down with an ultra-fine shower. Also would help to keep the humidity up at night.

thank you

Hi Adam,

We usually give the last misting 30 minutes to partially dry before "lights out" for our montane species and stumptails.

If you have substrate, it can breed bacteria with the added moisture - but if it is a draining cage, there shouldn't be as much danger of that. Just don't swamp the enclosure.

Another tip: turn out any basking lights about 30 minutes before "lights out" and only have the fluorescent on, this drops the temp gradually. We keep a small fan running in the montane room too - this provides good air flow.
