Speaking of Stereotypes! Who here thinks Corn Snakes are Evil?

birdhou53 Aug 25, 2003 02:30 PM

my mother is a really religious person and she kinda dislikes snakes no matter what kind of snakes they are.

honestly, i dont think corns are evil or anything....

but i do think that the Horned Viper or any of those poisonous snakes seem evil...especially with those like "1 lined" eyes. lol

Evil is a human emotion. Snakes aren't good or evil, they are animals just like any other. In fact, snakes are probably lizards that evolved and lost their legs.

Corn snakes are harmless little creatures and fun pets. Vipers are not evil. They use their only defense to protect themselves from harm. Generally speaking, if you leave them alone and don't step on them, they won't hard you.

I read somewhere that 70% of all snake bites occur when the person that was bit was trying to kill the snake in question.

One of my best friends happens to be a horned viper. He's a very good snakey, only hugging him is a bit risky so I don't do it. Other than that, a bit of venom thrown here or there doesn't make anyone evil.

well...they kinda look evil, lol, with those horns....but hey cool pic....do u have anymore pics of the horned viper? thats the first one i seen in a tank

They're really quite cute in person. This one is Cerastes cerastes, there are several different kinds. There's even a horned rattlesnake. Strangely, all the pics I have of him are him eating. He'd really mess me up if he managed to bite me though!
Set with another friend

He's my snake, I'm saying he IS my friend. Wild caught ones are quite easy to find and cost between 75-85 dollars, plus Delta shipping. However these are usually sick to some degree and you need to be prepared to medicate something that can kill you. I've done it and it's quite hair-raising. Captive bred ones are very hard to find, but I think that will change in the next few years.
I've only got the two pics on line right now, I'm too busy photodocumenting my sandboa collection. He doesn't do much except eat, sit around, and try to bite me through the glass anyway.

He was imported from Egypt. I bought him from an importer in Florida. All horned vipers live in Africa except for the horned rattlesnake or sidewinder which lives in the Southwestern US. His cage setup is slightly larger than a 10 gallon. He has a bunch of sand. And a rock.
It's possible he could kill me, make me wish I were dead, or maim me for life. So I try to avoid the pointy end.
