Deworming the kids (pt 2)

athos_76 Aug 25, 2003 02:43 PM

Well, I took the kids off to the vet today... Sure nuff...tapeworms. I had to give both of them deworming medicine... Abrahms refused to open his mouth, so we had to hold his nose shut till he would open his mouth to breath. They arent happy. On the plus side, it will only cost me 40 bucks to deworm them totally.
I also found a mate for my coastal carpet python there... Nice 8 foot male...mean though. I'm gonna take all my kids to this vet...he knows his stuff...

He also said that freezing fish may not kill the worms. Some worms can be frozen and still come back to life. So, he is gonna look into it. He also said force feeding a rosy or minnow to deworm stuff, then hand feeding the kids would be a good idea.

I believe it was Panacur. I can't really remember if that was it.... as for preventing the worms...he said it will happen randomly and is most likely caused by feeding them fish... He said guppies can eat tapeworm eggs...and the whole cycle starts from there.... And he said keep the tank clean as you can...He said buy a small minnow net and scoop anything like uneaten food up daily

panacur does not remove tapeworms. try to find out what it was.

piperazone? I really can't remember the name. I go back in a week for another check up and another dose of the stuff....I'll let you know

Piperazine will remove roundworm only. There are very few drugs that will remove a tapeworm, and I'm not sure which one can be used on a reptile, that is why I am so interested.
