Pastels and "lines"

EmberBall Dec 20, 2007 03:20 PM

Are people really more interested in Pastel lineage, or look? If there were two Pastels on a table, both the same price, one was a Pastel of unknown lineage, but a looker, and the other had a known line name, but was average, would the line knowledge win out over the look of the unknown Pastel?

Do any lines demand a premium anymore? I have to say, the only one I would pay extra for, is a stunning Ruppel line animal, straight from Stan.

Is one line better for certain projects? Say you want a Hypo Pastel, I would think because of the fading in the Graziani line, the Graziani line might be the best for a Pastel Hypo project. Say you wanted a strong black border in a cross you are making, perhaps the Lemon....

I guess what I am asking, is a Pastel a Pastel, or are line distinctions still important?

I'm about look personally.
I'd take a bright yellow pastel over a browned out lineage anyday.

I buy what I like - I tend to lean towards Graziani because they seem to blush well - and the ones that I've picked up have held their colors nicely into adult hood. Quality varies in all lines. I do have others including a butt ugly lemon pastel - awesome pattern and yellow color underneath a bunch of ugly brown - lucky I got her as a thank you gift. My MT line Blonde was a beautiful baby that didn't turn out quite as stellar as I'd hoped.

I`ve seen screamers and not so great pastels from every line out there. Good looks sell regardless of "bloodline" Buy what appeals to you. Here`s a nice Graziani Line that has held its colors into adulthood. Happy Holidays,Mark Petros BallPython777.com

I go with what appeals to my eye.

My best pastel is a lemon and my second fave is one from Don Kaye.

...there have been hundreds of imported pastels over the last few years. That would mean there are literally hundreds of different pastel 'lines'. How come you never hear much about lines other than the most 'popular' 5-10??? Hmmmm....that's is quite strange....

The answers have pretty much gone along with my feelings, pick the best looking baby you can find, or better yet, find a NICE adult, then you know what you have.
