Reptile Thermostat.....kinda urgent

ronald_durst Dec 20, 2007 05:46 PM

I just got home and checked on my temps for my 6 snakes and realized that one of my cages said 104f. Way to high. Thermostat was off however lights were still on. They all seem to be ok. But as far as the thermostat... i think its an allife 100 or something like that. I just read a post else where about them failing and doing exactly what mine did. Im watching it now but im afraid that it will do it again tomorrow. I dont want cooked snakes. Can anyone assist in this situation? Recommend a better thermostat? A solution maybe? Thanks

what kind of thermometer is it? the circle ones or the strip ones that attach to the glass can be off by up to twenty degrees in either direction.

for my reptiles i use a temp gun and/or a digital probe thermometer. for the digital probe, the accurite brand is only $8 and you can get it at walmart (by the outdoor thermometers). both types give very precise temp readings but generally you have to order temp guns. they are about $25 online. (i think i found mine at lllreptile.com)

hope that helps! good luck.

No its the thermostat. It actually controls the lights. Tells them when to turn on and off according to the temp you set it to.

im using all digital probe type thermometers. Sorry im sounding offensive. Im just kinda stressed. Got a lot going on. I bought a repti temp 500r last night so itll do til i can afford something better. I know i need to get the ranco or johnson....Just cant afford it with christmas and everything. Thanks for the help though.

the leading thermostats out there are helix kinda pricey expect to pay some thing near 150ish maybe a little less but they have plenty of fail safes and have been tested and proven time and time again.

While I prefer proportional t-stats over on/off t-stats, we use quite a few on/offs on our racks. They work great and have proven to be dependable. We are using both Johnsons and Rancos, but I prefer the Johnsons. You can get one for about half the cost of a Helix.
