Normal Phase/Silver color

MikeMurphy Aug 25, 2003 02:58 PM

Does anyone know of anyone breeding axanthic subocs with normal pattern? all the ones I've seen are "blonde" phase pattern. I know that the normal pattern silvers do exist. I just don't know anyone breeding them. Several books that I have mention the "silver colored animals with normal pattern" from the Franklin Mountains. But none of the books have any pictures.

Mike:
What I've read is that you can get a combination of these traits. You'ld probably want to combine silvers with normals and then work through the f1's and f2's to combine the silver (axanthic) trait with a melanism pattern found in normals. I guess the blond is sort of a hypomelanistic trait. So it shouldn't be necessary for (not linked to) the axanthic trait. Of course there maybe someone out there who produced them while creating silvers. Don't know who that somebody might be. Hopefully some knowledgable suboc breeders will jump in here.

I have two. They are both females and both wild-caught. One was collected in the Christmas Mountains, Brewster county by a friend and the other I collected at Black Gap.
I haven't produced any babies yet, next year at the earliest and I won't know if it's simple reccessive til I breed the possible hets.
There's a pic of somebody else's silvers on the Bull/Gopher/Pinesnake forum, I'll post the URL. The one I have from Black Gap looks exactly like those ones and the one from the Christmas that I have is more grayish-silver.
I also heard there was a 5ft. male silver collected this year at Black Gap within a mile of where I caught mine.

silver subocs

Thanks for that link. Man, those snakes look awesome. Can I get on a list for some next year? I'm definitely interested. Those guys seem hard to find.

I might have some possible hets from the Christmas Mtns. locality next year, I don't have a list though. A few people have asked me about them but since next year is the first possible breeding and I haven't bred this species before I don't know what will happen. Since they haven't been bred I don't even know if mine are genetic and I don't know the backgroung on the ones in the previous link I provided.
Regardless I'll probably keep 2 pairs of the Christmas' so there probably won't be much available for 2 years.
The situation is the same with the Black Gap except I'm only half owner, Ric Blair will get half the babies and I'll keep half so two years at the earliest before even any possible hets will be available.

on the subocs for recently. What's the chances of you getting that male that was caught this year? BTW - could you send me an email at home. My computer at work fried and I don't have any address books or info on my computer. I need to get your email address again. How's the eggs doing?

I talked to the guy who caught it. He offered to take my snake on breeding loan but I really didn't know him. I didn't ask about taking his male because quite frankly I didn't want it. It was a large adult which can be very difficult to acclimate.
I sent you my email address via this forum.
As far as eggs, I hatched out some greeri, agalma, taylori, okeetee corns, generic corns and Marathon Key Rosy Rats. Still waiting on the bairdi and alterna.

what about the ones my wife was interested in. I can't remember, but you and she does. Good luck. I see you have some of it on the classifieds. Did you ever ship out the other subocs to that lady?

Rosy Rats, they're just some dumb eggs I'm incubating for a friend. When you were over I forgot I even had them. Oh yeah I also have some Yellow Rat eggs. Maybe you should just come over when everything hatches.
You're wife liked the dark phase Langtry Graybands. Those are due in about 2 weeks.

and Dumb Eggs? LOL. I have some yellow ratsnake eggs cooking also. Maybe we need to talk some more or I need to come back over. I didn't get to roadhunt like I wanted to.
