Thanks for the links, I think we should all take our time to look this over and make some comments. One thing to keep in mind is that this is a law on the books and will be implimented in some form, until that law can be changed in another legislative session (and this one may stick around a long time..) we have to find a best way to live with this useless regulation. So keep that in mind as you make your comments

Read the verbage on the proposals--they're estimating HALF of all snake owners in TX own one of the listed species (African rock pythons, retics, anacondas, non-native venomous etc) and HALF of reptile dealers SELL them. I think their numbers are WAY too high, but this is what they're basing their anticipated revenues on.

Basically, this looks like another "gateway" law: establish the guidelines, permits, fines, etc. for a small number of species, then it's an easy matter to add species to the list when they find out they're not generating the desired revenue, and the program costs more to administer than it recoups. At that point, expect to see native TX venomous added, then all constrictors over 6 feet (large corns/rats etc).

Well, the author of the bill did say his mission and goal was to find ways to increase revenue for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department in the beginning of the session and he was credited for his accomplishments in that regard at the end of the session.
