What happens if you breed 2 Arabesques ?

JaredHorenstein Dec 21, 2007 08:04 PM

WHat would happen if you bred two arabesques to each other? Never really heard of it being done although I am sure someone has tried it before? Since it is a co-dom trait would there be some sort of super form?

Theoretically 25% would be homo arabslol but I don't remember seeing any "litter pics" of an arab x arab breeding although I haven't been around long at all but I do remember reading in a couple of posts that someone thinks the striped ones may be a "super" form but this is just speculation nothing serious but I'm sure a few people out there know like Steve but no one is telling

fairly disproven. There have been more Arabesques with missing saddles produced lately from Arab X non Arab breedings. The ones that popped out of the first Arab X Arab definitely had everyone thinking in that direction though.

While those may be supers, since there are definite non-supers that have the same appearance it's best labeled as Dominant like Hypos. Until proven otherwise I'd hold back those striped ones from Arab X Arab breedings and test them out.

Yeah that's why I tried to emphasize the "just speculation nothing serious" but could have been taken wrong but I don't know if you were responding to the first post or minelol but then figured out it had to be me but didn't seem to see where I went off but while we're chatting what is your long term goal Chris with the blood project out of curiosity? thanks in advance for any errors too cuz I never claimed to be smart eitherlol What is considered an anery x pastel together that is not of Ronne Lineage too?

I don't have pics, but I remember seeing some on this forum about 2 years ago or so. They looks like really nice arabesques with very clean pattern and very bright colors.

Hey Jared,

As far as I know there is no "confirmed" dominant version of the Arabesque mutation. I believe the more reduced patterns seen in Arabesque to Arabesque breedings to be more a form of line breeding than an actual "super" form. It would be interesting to see photos comparing say F2 with any F3 offspring to see if they are cleaner with more reduced patterns.

cheers, John

This is a female I got from Steve Hammond about a year ago. She is the product of an Arabesque X Arabesque pairing. He termed her a "possible super", but that was due to both parents being Arabesque, not appearance. Not that good a photo, I just snapped it to add to this thread.

These pics Steve Hammond sent me, these are from Arab X Arab:
