Receding lower jaw?

Jules353 Dec 23, 2007 01:18 AM

I just realized that it looks like my geckos lower mouth/snout area is farther back than the upper snout. It isn't a major difference, hence why I just noticed it, but it is enough to worry me. I know that I need to take her to the vet but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to what it might be. I have heard of mouth rot and looked up symptoms but there isn't any puss or swelling and she is acting normal. Should I be worried?

I forgot to mention that she is almost 11, I know geckos can live to be 20 but could it be "old age"?

Realistically, with good care you should be looking at 20-25 years.

MBD (metabolic bone disease) is a progressive disease, while it it unusual for it to "just pop up" if you have had her this long it is not impossible for her to be short on calcium a little bit either when she was younger and never recovered or bit by bit over the years.

A picture would be helpful, they are free to post here if you follow the link called "gallery" it will explain everything and is very easy.

The next step if it looks very off might be some xrays or just bumping up the calcium load on her prey. I'm assuming she doesn't have a hard time eating then?

Good luck
