Polymorphism in snakes

Aka2212 Dec 23, 2007 05:35 AM

Hi all,

I'm curious to know how big an influence the parent animals will have on the pattern and coloration of their offspring, in polymorphic snakes species.

Would anyone happen to know something about this or maybe have a reference to litterature dealing with this topic?

cheers
Jakob

Richard Zweifel did a paper on California kings back in 1981 in the Journal of Heredity. Genetics of color pattern polymorphism in the California kingsnake, J. Hered. 72:238-244. It's available on line, I think.

Bechtel and Whitecar. http://www.jstor.org/view/00221511/ap050056/05a00100/0?frame=frame&userID=81ba7670@iastate.edu/01c0a8346600501cfa37b&dpi=3&config=jstor

I did a google search for polymorphism and reptiles and got 54,000 hits. Good luck.
