Now I'm Paranoid

jscrick Dec 23, 2007 01:44 PM

Well, now I'm even more paranoid than ever!
Had a funky smell. Was looking and looking for a puke somewhere.
Pretty strong smell. So first I looked at my larger snakes and nothing. Then I went through my 07's. There she was. Looking as beautiful as ever, stretched out comfortably, just laying there, stone cold dead. She was terribly bloated. That's the only thing not normal looking. Don't remember her having any trouble before. I do keep notes on bad things. Nothing abnormal on her. She ate 2 F/T rat pinks on the 18th. Don't think I over fed her. They were really small and I wouldn't have given her 2 if she didn't seem to want the second.
Now I'm worried about all my other 07's that ate the same rat pinks.
She arrived on Sept. 25th. That's nearly 3 months. Hope my others don't catch something from her. Maybe she caught something from one of the others. Here's to hoping it's just one of those unavoidable congenital defects. '07 EBV Red Group female from the Bay area. Anybody know anything defect wise on them?

I'm really sorry to hear that John! My best advice is to get a necropsy done on her, but I know you know that. Good luck.

Sorry to hear that bro.

What do you feed them on? Any chance she could have swallowed some substrate and gotten all backed up? Let us know what you find out Please

No, I feed them on Newspaper. The only thing I did different was thaw the pinks in the bag. Didn't throw them in hot water like usual. There were just a very few tiny squares of that hardwood medium (don't remember the name) on some of the pinkies. I think I got most of it off. Not enough to block her up and not so fast. Here is a pic from today. The bloat is postmortem gas. She's been dead at least 24 hrs. Notice how undersized her tail and extreme posterior is. I'm hoping its just a physical defect. Something isn't right about that tail. It looks a like some kind of polio afflicted extremity. Noticed a strange look to her tail when I got her. Thought it was just because it was somewhat striped.

Is there a possibility that she overheated?

Sorry for your loss Bro'. Sad thing indeed.

I haven't heard of any problems with the red groups myself. Hopefully it is just a fluke, and all else will be good to go. Keep us up on the necropsy results.

My condolences again.
