60 gallon split

whipple Dec 23, 2007 11:42 PM

I am probably getting a ball python and he comes with a 60 gallon tank and accessories. I was just wondering if I would be able to split up the tank and use it to house two snakes seperately. Each having there own heating pad, hide and bowl.

Thanks

i think it depends on the floor space. if its a tall 60 the odds are no you cannot do it.

I did this with a 55 gallon. I put a piece of plexi glass in the middle and used aquarium sealant but make sure it has plenty of time to air out, that stuff is strong smelling. The two bps that I had put in there were just babies so the amount of space was fine at the time.

I have a tank I did this with to house two smaller snakes, but I think it would work on any scale. I used a piece of corrugated sign board in the middle, sealed with silicone. I placed a heat mat right in the middle, so the warm side is in the centre, and cool sides on the outsides. Then you don't need two mats, and if everything is a mirror image, it is really easy to keep temps and humidity right. It worked great, and by using black, (or any opaque) sign board, the snakes are separated visually as well. (don't know if that matters, but it looks good too)
