Taking quality pics for dummies.....

NUCCIZ_BOAS Dec 24, 2007 01:30 PM

So if there is anybody else out there like me, this post pertains to you. I am not the best when it comes to capturing good photos of snakes, especially trying to capture their color. I always see people post about top notch cameras, and how to use the white light feature with flash/no flash, but it's all chinese to me....

So I bought my girlfriend a new digital camera for christmas, gave it to her last night. I of course experimented with it a little bit, and WOW. It is a kodak, 12 megapixel digital camera from Best Buy. I was finally able to capture the red in some of the snakes I have been bragging about but could never really show off because the pictures dont show it.... until now. I used the close-up mode for taking the pics, with a flash.

This is a holdback of mine from June 2006, from an argentine female to an albino male. These 2 are sisters, and look at the difference in red!

and here's her sister

I'm still learning too. I have a little canon power shot that I am really happy with. I think the (lack of) quality of my pictures have more to do with my (lack of) ability than the camera's performance. It does a good job of capturing colors, I just need to make more of an effort with the content! lol Like everything else, it's a process!

Any camera thats over 5mg and used in Macro mode will do pretty much the same thing. The higher the Pixel rate the better.
I'm by far a photographer, but I have figured out the limits of my Nikons Macro feature and do get some pretty killer pics.
Matter of fact I shoot all my pics in this mode.
Indoor shots are a challenge without proper lighting, the flash on most "point/shoot"style cameras suck to say the least.
I miss alot of cool in cage shots because of it too

Removing the turd before taking the pictures helps the picture quality a lot. It just sorta reaches out there. Even though you try not to look, it's all you can see.

Lighting is important for indoor pics. Fluorescent lights, and incandescent lights give off a yellow tone that the camera sees better than us, making the colors off a bit. You need "WHITE" light to counter this.
