>>that's what i thought,i just was,nt sure if a snake could be both albino and luecistic.i wonder what the odds of getting 2 unrelated snakes from 2 different people(the male came from a small show in columbia,sc;the female from someone in california,off of kingsnake),and both being het for albino.neither was offered as het,i happened to pick these b/c they weren't bug-eyed.is there much of a price difference between blue-eyed lucys & albino lucys?also,my mom was considering breeding the albino yellow rat that i gave her for her birthday this year to her male lucy.if he is apparently het for albino,ishe should get albinos in the clutch,right?

~~~ Yes, they can be both leucistic and albino at the same time, but the only difference you can actually SEE is the pink eyes from the albinism. As you mentioned,... although the snakes were bought from different people, these people could have very likely gotten the same stock from the same breeder(s), as this trait is also becoming more common in the hobby, and the leucistics also have been very inbred, which again tends to limit the genetic diversity. This in turn also raises the chances of acquiring the same bloodline from a large number of different breeders.
As far as a price difference between the two, I think the "pink-eyeds" are still going for a slightly higher price, due to the fact that they aren't quite as common in the hobby,...as of yet.
Assuming the other "leucy" is indeed het for amel(no way of knowing) the paired mating would produce a percentage of albinos since that albinism trait is compatible as far as I know(same allele locale on the chromosome). In my opinion, I would keep them as pure as possible, and NOT make more undiscernable intergrades. There is already WAYYYY to much of this in the hobby, and only further adds to the problem. As a matter of fact, the VERY SNAKES you mention are very questionable as to the purity of their lineage. Meaning possible influence from black rat lineage. These two snakes are virtually identicle in the leucistic form, and the albino trait of "obsoleta" is more than likely in many in the hobby as well.
Hope this helps some.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!, ~Doug
